ABOUT SUNNY

Born in Korea and raised in Boston, Sunny ventured to Los Angeles to make films. The journey started in her youth when her brother gave her a 35mm Nikon, igniting her passion for photography and the visual arts. She already loved to write, thus it was an easy segue to combine words and visuals into creating beauty, telling stories and creating entertainment. Her body of work has appeared on Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Hulu, National Geographic, Bravo. Among her nominations and awards includes an Emmy win for her contribution to Marie Kondo: Sparking Joy.

Traveling has always been Sunny’s other passion which her work has granted her a thousand fold. Her filming experiences across the globe have included going to prison in Indiana, dancing with a Bishop in a Romanian castle, getting chased by alpacas in Peru, recreating the Nazca lines, rowing alongside Rapanui warriors, gun fighting with Don Swayze, filming an engagement on top of the Teotihuacan pyramid … the list goes on. Being fluent in Spanish also gave her the opportunity to direct and lens projects in Spain and Mexico.

Versed in both scripted and unscripted, Sunny wears many hats as the bridge between Production, Producing and Technical/Visuals. For her, film is an art and a craft that should synergize visuals, logistics and people. As a Director and Director of Photography, her forté is creating a signature feel and an elevated look. She specializes in directing multi-camera set ups. Planning is the key to her approach and helping the team feel confident to do their best work. Sunny cherishes the rewards and the challenges of making films and will always be a poet-photographer at heart, there to capture the human story, in its darkness and light.
